Johnny & Jeanette Williams (Band)

Biography:

Since her debut solo release in 1994, Jeanette Williams has quietly become one of the most successful and celebrated women in bluegrass music. Her list of awards, accolades, and career highlights continues to grow, as does her adoring fan base. Jeanette burst onto the national scene in 1999 with her release “Cherry Blossoms in the Springtime”, which spent 9 months on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Album Chart. In support of her album, Jeanette and her band increased touring and winning fans from coast to coast, and internationally, with her powerful songs, angelic voice and warm, sincere personality. Touring, recording and industry awards have become a mainstay for Jeanette.

Jeanette Williams was born in North Carolina and raised in Virginia. She grew up singing at a young age and began her professional career by singing country music, then switched to bluegrass and joined the band Clearwater which included her future husband Johnny Williams.

Johnny Williams grew up in Fries, Virginia, a small community nestled alongside the New River in Grayson County. Grayson County has long been steeped in bluegrass and old-time music, and Johnny soaked up the musical culture around him at fiddler’s conventions, local performances, and jam sessions. Johnny became a powerful singer and songwriter and, after stints with soul and blues bands, returned to his bluegrass roots. At a local opry production, Johnny met Jeanette Finney, a sought-after singer. They married two years later.

During this period, she earned a number of awards, including four Female Vocalist of the Year awards from SPBGMA. By this time, Jeanette's powerful vocals were the central focus of Clearwater and the band was renamed the Jeanette Williams Band. That same year, she recorded a second album with her husband titled Johnny and Jeanette Williams.

Johnny and Jeanette often perform and write songs independently; each has won the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest, in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and collaborated with distinguished songwriters Dixie and Tom T. Hall. But, their greatest joy is playing together as the much-beloved Johnny and Jeanette Williams Band. Johnny & Jeanette Williams continue to move audiences with their unique and heartfelt bluegrass sound.
