Departments at Radford University and Virginia Tech presents the Virtual Panel titled "The Women Who Helped Drive The Magic School Bus" on Monday, March 23, 2026 offered online on Zoom as well as a in-person Watch Party at Hemphill Hall 4700 on the campus of Radford University.
This Women's History Month, we're taking a field trip and this one will change the way you think about science, storytelling, and creators behind one of the most beloved educational series of all time.
Whether you're a scientist, a teacher, a student, a parent, a historian, or someone who still hums the theme song — this one's for you. We bring together six leaders in children’s media: Cheryl Gotthelf, Jenny Lam, Yvette Kaplan, Kristin Laskas Martin, Jocelyn Stevenson, and Phoebe Yeh.
The more, the merrier on this bus!
Participants can attend a Watch Party in person at Hemphill Hall 4700 on the campus of Radford University.
Participants can also choose to attend online, by registering at: https://radford.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_j3VR2yaiTWe6lZb4flMfDg.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
As Ms. Frizzle always said: Take chances, make mistakes, get messy! Come celebrate the real women who made the magic happen.
This event is proudly co-sponsored by Radford University (School of Communication, Cinema and Screen Studies; Women's and Gender Studies) and Virginia Tech (Department of Science, Technology, and Society; Department of History; Center for Communicating Science; Institute for Society, Culture and Environment; Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology; and the Women's Center).
It builds on funding from the National Science Foundation (awards 2341860 and 2341861)
