JBR Vineyards & Winery presents their 6th Annual Paw Paw Festival on Saturday, September 6, 2025 and Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 12:00-5:00 daily.

Celebrate America’s forgotten native tropical fruit, rediscovered at JBR Vineyards’ Pawpaw Festival! Enjoy a mountain weekend filled with live music, great wine, a walk through the pawpaw patch, visit the pawpaw display table with a limited number of saplings & seeds available, vineyard tours with the winemaker starting at 3:00 PM both days, the Simple Fixins' food truck and learning about pawpaws.

Pawpaws are an integral part of Appalachian history. They are a native North American fruit. Native Americans not only ate the fruit; they made rope out of the bark. The Shawnee had a “paw paw month” on their calendar. George Washington’s favorite dessert was chilled pawpaw, and pawpaws are mentioned in Lewis and Clark’s log. Mary Draper Ingles was sustained by paw paws on her long trek home from captivity.

For various reasons, pawpaws have no commercial value, so people rarely see or hear about them. Few people know about this fruit and how easy it is to grow in their own yards.

On Saturday, enjoy the music of The Fisher Peak Timber Rattlers and on Sunday, Bobby Parker performs.

The Fisher Peak Timber Rattlers is an old time band that has been playing in Southwest Virginia for more than 15 years. The majority of their repertoire is tunes that have been shared in this section of the Blue Ridge for more than a century.

In the Goodson community, friends and neighbors would get together to ‘make music’ at someone’s home or at one of the country stores. Listeners can close their eyes and have the same aural experience that their ancestors would have had visiting here.

Admission is free.

Bring a chair and relax to live music and fine wine.

Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
