The 2012 Virginia New River Trail Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 15th starting at the Foster Falls area of the New River Trail. After a hiatus, the 2011 race was a resounding success, and this year's challenge promises to be bigger and better than ever.
There are three stages to the race. It starts at Foster Falls with a 40-mile mountain-bike ride followed by a 12-mile kayak stage and ends with a half marathon (13.1 miles).
All competitors will receive race t-shirts and awards will given out to the top performers in a variety of categories.
Competitors must be at least 18 on race day to compete in the race. The triathlon can be completed as an individual or as a team. The race is limited to the first 300 individuals and/or team members to sign up.
Competitors may race in two or three-person teams. The teams may be female, male, mixed, senior male or senior female. Mixed teams may be any combination of genders, and senior team members must be at least 50 years old on race day.
To encourage college-age participation, a special discount of $25 for individuals and $45 for teams (at least half the team members must be in school) is being offered.
