Description:
The Floyd Contra Dance presents their December Contra Dance featuring the music of Go Figure and well-known North Carolina caller Joy Greenwolfe on Saturday, December 14th at the Dogtown Roadhouse.

The dance starts at 8 pm with a beginner lesson at 7:35 pm.

Come as you are, wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will teach each dance. Come to dance or come to listen - no partner needed. All age groups and experience levels welcome.

Go Figure is the contra duo of Mike Dunn on fiddle and Janet Muse on piano. Janet began by studying classical music at the age of five. She's now played for appreciative dancers in several contra dance bands for over twenty-five years, including the nationally known band, Caledonia. Mike is also classically trained, with expertise in violin and viola, attending Duke University on a music scholarship. He began playing traditional music about fifteen years ago and hasn't stopped, winning many prizes for fiddle playing at Scottish events and at the Virginia State Fair.

The band Go Figure honors the fine traditions of New England-style folk dance music, drawing from sources as diverse as the British Isles, French Canada, and the American Folk style. Their love of waltz music comes through in the band's recent CD, "Sunday in Greenwood," full of waltz tunes showcasing artistic and emotional expression. As dance musicians, they've performed for contra, English, and Scottish dances throughout Virginia and beyond.

The Blue Ridge Country Dancers' contra dances are held in Floyd at the Dogtown Roadhouse on the second Saturday of each month through December 2014.
