This event is being put together through the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) at Virginia Tech, but is being organized by students, faculty, and staff alike.
This year's theme is Beyond Boundaries. Boundary-pushers are the driving force in the advancement of society, technology, arts, politics, science, entertainment, and design. The vision of TEDxVirginiaTech 2013 is to capture and showcase those who push the envelope in our community.

Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.
