Special Olympics Virginia will be hosting a Regional Basketball Tournament Sunday, February 17th in Cassell Coliseum at Virginia Tech.

Special Olympics is once again promoting the “Volunteer 2 Cheer” campaign to rock the Cassell. Volunteers will come together as the “home team crowd” for teams from across the region. The organizing committee is expecting the community and the university students to pack the stands and create an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm for the teams as they start tournament play.

The basketball games begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm. Opening ceremonies are at 1:00 pm.

The Virginia Tech basketball team will be on hand to assist in the ceremonies, including the torch lighting, which will occur around 1 pm and Coach James Johnson will address the Special Olympians. Dozens of Virginia Tech varsity athletes will be there to greet the athletes, present awards and help with the games.

Special Olympics is an organization that provides a program of sports training and athletic competition for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. All individuals and groups are welcome.
