Description:
The Blue Ridge Country Dancers present their December Contra Dance featuring the music of North Carolina musicians David DiGiuseppe and Pete Campbel and caller Joy Greenwolfe on Saturday, November 10th at the Sun Music Hall.

The dance starts at 8 pm with a beginner lesson at 7:35 pm. Come as you are, wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will teach each dance. Come to dance or come to listen - no partner needed.

Musicians David and Pete are well-known in dance circles for their eclectic and very energetic repertoire. David DiGiuseppe keeps an up-tempo on accordian, while Pete Campbell inspires with a delightful piano downbeat. Joy Greenwolfe has called for dances across the Southeast and will teach the dance figures before each of the contra dances.

David has a number of recordings, including Movin' on, Welcome to Heaven..., and South of Andromeda. The Mighty Accordion--The Complete Guide to Mastering Left Hand Bass/Chord Patterns by DiGiuseppe was recently published, adding to his other books, 100 Tunes for Piano Accordion (reels, jigs, hornpipes and polkas from the French Canadian, Cape Breton, Scottish, Shetland, New England, and Southern Old Time traditions) and 100 Irish Tunes for Piano Accordion, a collection of traditional Irish music arranged for the accordion.

Contra dancing is easy relaxed fun, and though the figures are done with a partner, singles are always welcome. Contra dancing is suitable for all ages, in fact the original form of the dance, such as the Virginia Reel, was a popular U.S. folk tradition from about 1830-1890.

Blue Ridge Country Dancers' Contra Dances are held in Floyd on the second Saturday of each month through June.
