Description:
Rising Silo Farm Brewery presents C Joynes and Eight Point Star in concert on Friday, June 15, 2018.

English acoustic guitarist C Joynes, a resident of Cambridge, UK, is a Fahey-style guitar maestro and a standard-bearer of the British Primitive music.

He has a heavy thumb-led finger-picking technique that harks back to traditional country-blues and early ragtime. However, he uses this technique to explore alternative melodic traditions: the English folk-tune; North and West African music; elements of classical Indian music; proto-minimalist and impressionist musics from the European classical tradition. His approach to the recording and compositional process contains a subtle and unassuming experimentation, at times including collaged fragments, field recordings, processing, en-plein-air recordings, and cut-and-paste.

Eight Point Star is the newest musical incarnation of Mike Gangloff, Cara Gangloff and Matt Peyton, created to solidify and expand music that Mike & Cara and Mike & Matt have performed as they toured across Europe and around the southeastern United States.

With hardanger fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, banjos, gongs, singing bowls and lots more, this is a mostly acoustic sound, but with Matt's theremin and other electronics occasionally rising to the surface sometimes from the Golden Age jazz or Great American Songbook classics that Cara grew up singing, sometimes from the urgent, raw blues that Matt has pursued and sometimes from pure, free improvisation aimed at creating an in-the-moment symphony. This is extended Appalachian music with a story of its own to tell.

Relax on the patio of Blacksburg's only farm brewery to the taste of craft local brews and kombucha.

A warm and hearty meal prepared by the farm kitchen, Tabula Rasa, is available by cash donation, and supplied by products of Glade Road Growing, Strong Earth Farm and Hoof Hearted Farm LLC and all your favorite local growers and crafters!

Tips encouraged for musicians, there is no cover fee.

Rising Silo Brewery is a family-friendly, dog friendly vibe and all are welcome.
