Description:
Due to the New River’s current moving too quickly to safely conduct our Polar Plunge event as determined by the New River Valley Swift Water Rescue Team, the Radford Fire Department and the Radford City Police Department, the New River Polar Plunge has been postponed until Saturday, March 19, 2016.
Special Olympics Virginia along with the Radford City Police Department and Radford University presents the 2016 Special Olympics New River Polar Plunge Fest on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Dudley Landing in Bisset Park.
Schedule:
• 10:00 am - Check In / Registration Begins
• 12:00 pm - Plunge in New River Begins
Go ankle deep or all in. Either way, when you brave the New River with your closest friends, you’re helping our athletes discover how cool it feels to be a Special Olympics champion.
The New River Polar Plunge Fest, hosted by the Radford City Police and Radford University, has become a unique tradition that has grown to include more than 350 plungers and has raised more than $150,000 for Special Olympics Virginia’s programs. The plunge is open to the entire community including Radford University alumni, RU and Virginia Tech students, youth groups, local residents — anyone that wants to help us raise money to benefit the amazing athletes of Special Olympics Virginia!
Fundraising Milestones:
• Fundraising minimum is $50 to Plunge.
• Raise $100 you get a Highlander Polar Plunge T-Shirt.
• Raise $300 you will receive a Polar Plunge Towel!
There is a contest for the highest fundraising for both individual and team totals as well as the best costume! There will be tons of other doors prizes as well.

Anyone can Plunge – young and old! If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign your waiver form.
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
