Description:
The Crooked Road's Mountains of Music Homecoming presents Fiddlocity, a concert featuring Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper and Kitty & the Stray Cats at the Christiansburg High School auditorium on Saturday, June 13th.

Buckle up—there’s high-speed fiddling ahead!

Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper is based in Indiana and has been awarded the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) 4-Time Instrumental Group of the Year led by 9-Time IBMA Fiddle Player Michael Cleveland.

Considered one of the premier bluegrass fiddlers of his generation, Mike Cleveland picked up a fiddle at age four, and his talent was recognized early. In 1993 he was chosen to be part of the Bluegrass Youth All Stars at the IBMA's award show. Later that year Mike made his Grand Ole Opry debut as a guest of Alison Krauss.

His list of guest appearances over the years is a who's who of bluegrass legends including Bill Monroe, Jim and Jesse, Ralph Stanley, Mac Wiseman, Doc Watson, Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, and J.D. Crowe. After high school Mike briefly toured with then-named Dale Ann Bradley and Coon Creek before joining Rhonda Vincent and The Rage in 2000. At the 2001 IBMA awards, Mike took his first Fiddle Player of the Year award, and shared the title of Entertainer of the Year with Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. He’s lent his skills to two Grammy-winning albums, and his most recent project with Flamekeeper, On Down the Line, is at the top of the bluegrass charts for 2015.

Other members of Flamekeeper include talented musicians Nathan Livers, Tyler Griffith, Joshua Richards and Cody Looper.

Kitty Amaral began her love for Old-time and Bluegrass Music at the very tender age of six years old. The earthy elements surrounding the music filled her heart with joy and set her feet to an unstoppable rhythmic beat. She became totally enchanted with learning and playing the music.

Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia, she was exposed to many of the genre’s greatest players and scholars. Several of whom took Kitty under their wing to teach her the nuance of this unique blend of sounds, which they held so very near and dear to their own hearts. The people of the community, the true soul of the Old-time and Bluegrass Music, relished in it with such a passion that it was quickly realized by Kitty just how much power the music carried to touch the human spirit and sprinkle it with powerful emotion.

Eight years later, she has already graced the stages of the Grand Ole Opry, Merlefest (where she was selected as a Youth Ambassador), and the Wayne Henderson Festival, among others. In 2013, on a whim for a summer fiddle contest, Kitty and her adult mentor friends formed the band; “Kitty & the Stray Cats”.
