The International Bluegrass Music Association awarded Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers Entertainer of the Year in 2011. In 2008, the band received a nomination from International Bluegrass Music Association for Album and Gospel Performance of the Year. The band were featured performers on the June 27, 2009 broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, with the addition of Steve Martin on the banjo.

The New Spring Valley Boys bring together the drive bursting sounds of the Galax VA fiddle styles and the Round Peak NC Styles of Clawhammer Banjo. The Solid old-time rhythm of a Mandolin and the smooth rhythmic sound of an old-time Guitar style as old as the hills also help to create the Spring Valley Boy’s unique sound. The fiddler Levi Funk's main goal is to keep some of the old Galax VA Fiddle styles alive, such as Otis Burris's and several others.

The mostly self-taught award winning Banjo player Daniel Boyer has a style that is quite similar to that of Kyle creed of Round Peak, NC. With his clean note filled playing he is a big part of the bands blues filled sound. The Guitar player Joe Farmer, Or "Uncle Joe" is becoming something of a dying breed, with his bass runs and smooth back-up rhythm he is one of the old-time music world’s finest. The same goes for the Mandolin player Dylan Isom, he plays a style that most mandolin players veer away from. He tends to have a more up and down motion, opposed to a more typical "mandolin chop". This method along with all the others together, help to create what the Spring Valley Boys call "Their sound".
