Hacksburg presents the class "Pi Day Special: DIY Weather Station on a Raspberry Pi" on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Ever wondered if it’s really hotter now? Want to join the Weather Underground? Do you have a fancy weather console in your kitchen you haven't actually looked at in years? Want to know what's going on at your home rather than a near(ish) by courthouse or airport?

This Pi Day, dive into the world of weather tracking with us! Join our class where we’ll show you how to harness the power of a Raspberry Pi to monitor and analyze weather data. We’ll focus on WeeWx, a fantastic software that operates seamlessly on a Raspberry Pi paired with an Acurite Weather Station.

Here’s what we’ll cover:
• Setup: Guidance on getting WeeWx up and running.
• Custom Charting: Learn how to create tailored charts to visualise your weather data.
• Forecast Services: Explore options to integrate forecasting capabilities. • Hopefully this may be a "working session".
• Citizen Reporting: Discover how to contribute your observations to services like the Weather Underground and NOAA's Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP).

If you got it, bring it. If you have a Raspberry Pi and any supported hardware, bring them and we'll help you with setting them up. Check out the list of supported hardware. For the ambitious, there is an instructables guide for setup; you can check it out in advance.

This event is free for Hacksburg members and $5.00 for non-members.

This class is for attendees age 14 and up. If you are bringing an attendee under 18, you (the parent/guardian) must stay for the entire duration of the class and approve all shop tool use.

Hacksburg is located at 1872 Pratt Drive, Suite 1620 in Blacksburg, VA within the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. Enter through the covered double doors at the back of the building.
