The Jessie Peterman Library presents an Author Talk with Barbara Pleasant on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Local author Barbara Pleasant will be joining us for a special author event sponsored by the Floyd County Library Building Fund. Pleasant is best known for her gardening books, but more recently published her novel, "Floyd, VA 2:42". Her intention was to write a story that would appeal to everyone in Floyd, including those who rarely read books, and it’s working. Her clean, quirky end of the world novel where the survivors prevail by pulling together has lots of local folks turning pages.

Barbara Pleasant is a well-respected voice in the world of organic gardening and self-sufficient living. Her books, magazine articles and online writing have won numerous awards from the Garden Writers Association, and she was named a distinguished alumnae at the University of Alabama. A long-time contributing editor to Mother Earth News, Pleasant is known for her practical, earth-friendly advice.

Barbara dabbled in fiction for years, learning the craft, and the more skilled she became, the more she enjoyed the work. A Floyd, VA 2:42 sequel is in progress. Pleasant has lived in Floyd for almost 20 years and is a long-time board member and officer for Partnership for Floyd. She keeps a large garden and raised chickens until a bear ate them.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Copies of the author's book will be available for sale and proceeds will go to support the Floyd County Library Building Fund.
