Christiansburg Aquatic Center presents Lifeguard Training starting on Friday, March 27, 2026 through Sunday, March 29, 2026 with a registration deadline of Monday, March 23, 2026.

Class Schedule:
• Friday, March 27th from 4:00-9:00 PM
• Saturday, March 28th from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Sunday, March 29th from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This Lifeguard Certification course equips participants with the skills and confidence to spot trouble before it sinks in and to respond quickly when emergencies arise. Through hands-on training and engaging activities, you’ll learn how to prevent drowning and injuries and how to keep your cool when things get deep. Upon successful completion, participants will earn Lifeguard Certification through the American Red Cross, officially making you ready to guard the pool like a pro.

Prerequisite 1: Swim–Tread–Swim Sequence (No Rest Allowed):
• Jump into the water and fully submerge.
• Resurface and swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
• Stay afloat for 2 minutes by treading water using only your legs, no hands, just strong kicks.
• Finish by swimming 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.

Prerequisites 2: Timed Skill Challenge (1 minute, 40 seconds)
• Start in the water and swim 20 yards (face in or out of the water; goggles not allowed).
• Perform a surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
• Resurface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface.
• Exit the water without using steps or a ladder. A strong finish is required.

The cost for the three-day class is $250.00 or the class is free if you work through the summer.

The registration deadline is Monday, March 23rd.
