Warm Hearth Village presents the talk "History of the Radford Arsenal: 1938-1946" on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Warm Hearth Village Center in Blacksburg, VA.
Join us for a fascinating look back at the early history of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, originally known as the Radford Ordnance Works, led by Dennis Kitts. Learn How this 6901-acre facility – complete with its own rail system – was built in record time during WWII, sparking a housing boom in Radford, Fairlawn, and beyond, to accommodate 20,000 workers. Both men and women labored in ammunition production to support U.S. forces in WWII, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and beyond.
Dennis Kitts, retired Manager of Training & Development at the Arsenal and official historian, will share engaging stories of the men and women who labored there, fueling the U.S. military effort through WWII the Korean Conflict, and beyond.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
