Blacksburg Books continues their Experts Next Door series featuring a Lecture with Biologist Olivia Brooks on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Experts Next Door is a lecture series presented by Blacksburg Books highlighting experts in our community. These are academics, master crafters and other local smartypants.

October’s lecture comes from Olivia Brooks!

Dr. Brooks is a postdoctoral researcher at Virginia Tech studying the toxins found in poison-dart frogs. She'll be talking about how poison-dart frogs get their poisons, how they can resist these poisons, and how parent poison-dart frogs pass on their poisons to their tadpoles.

Fear not! There will be a presentation with lots of pictures.
