Description:
The Radford Public Library presents the program "Radford Parks: A Dialogue Between Art, Science & Nature" on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Experience a unique dialogue between art and science as a dendrologist and an artist examine Radford’s dynamic park systems and their profound relationship to the natural environment.
Dr. John Seiler, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Forest Biology at Virginia Tech, will give a presentation on the native forest ecosystem along the New River. He will explore the ecology of the major tree species found there and discuss how the trees and river interact to sustain the health of this vital riparian environment.
Jan Knipe, Emerita Professor of Art at Hollins University, will exhibit drawings done in the city parks and riverfronts along the New River in Radford. She will discuss the working process of "plein air" drawing and observation.
This project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
The Radford Public Library is located at 30 West Main Street in Radford, VA.
