Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents their Concert Artist Series featuring Pianist Ching-Yi Lin performing a concert titled "Happy Birthday, Maurice!" on Monday, September 15, 2025 inside the Squires Recital Salon on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Join acclaimed Taiwanese pianist Ching-Yi Lin for a captivating recital that pays homage to French composer Maurice Ravel on the occasion of his 150th birthday.
The program opens with J.S. Bach’s English Suite No. 2 in A minor, a set of intricate French dances with the curious inscription from Bach, “for the English.” The Bach is followed by Ravel’s playful and whimsical La Parade, music intended to feature in an unfinished ballet. Romantic lyricism comes alive in Robert Schumann’s beloved Arabeske, before the concert concludes with Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, poignant and often virtuosic tribute to friends and colleagues lost in the conflagration of World War One.
A prizewinner at international competitions and a seasoned performer on prestigious stages from Carnegie Hall to Taipei’s National Recital Hall, Lin brings deep musical insight and virtuosity to every performance. With recent career highlights including a recital tour celebrating Rachmaninoff and a guest appearance honoring the late American pianist Leon Fleisher, this is an evening of piano artistry not to be missed.

The Squires Recital Salon is located at 241 Squires Student Center within the Squires Student Center in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.
