The Giles County Historical Society Museum presents the 3rd Annual George Pearis Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Heritage Days themed "God, Home & Country" on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Schedule of Events:
• 11:00 AM: Wreath Laying at George Pearis Cemetery (short walk required)
• 12:00 PM: Food Truck on site
• 1:00 PM: Honor Guard Salute and Raising of the Colors
• 1:30-3:30 PM: Living History at the Johnston House with Children's History and Reading of the Declaration of Independence
• 4:00 PM: Giles Community Singers Concert
• 5:30 PM: Taps and Retire the Colors
Hosted by the George Pearis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the day features a patriotic lineup of events including a wreath-laying ceremony at the historic George Pearis Cemetery, an honor guard salute and flag raising, living history presentations at the Johnston House, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a concert by the Giles Community Singers.
This event highlights Revolutionary War Captain George Pearis, the namesake of Pearisburg, and the history of Pearisburg, Virginia with a variety of fun activities for all ages.
George Pearis resided and was in command of the Pearis Fort on the New River providing refuge for settlers. Captain Pearis joined Major Joseph Cloyd in suppressing Tory uprisings in 1780 at Shallow Ford along the Yadkin River in North Carolina and was severely injured in the battle.
Admission is free though donations are gratefully accepted.
A food truck will be on site starting at 12:00 PM.
Lawn chairs and colonial patriotic dress are encouraged.
