The Radford Public Library presents The Geography of Tea: An Introduction and Tasting on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Enjoy a broad overview of tea, the physical and human geographies that have combined to create the world's second most consumed beverage. Learn the history behind the plant, how tea is made, and how it is brewed. The class involves a deep-dive into each of the world's tea producing regions with daily sensory evaluations of tea from that region.
Participants will taste each of the six major types of tea from around the world and also get hands-on experience with brewing equipment.
The program is free however registration is required. To register, email elizabeth.sensabaugh@radfordva.gov.
Stewart Scales is an advanced instructor of Geography at Virginia Tech; he teaches a variety of regional geography classes (Geography of Appalachia & Geography of Virginia) and also teaches mapping & cartography courses to undergraduates. He completed his undergraduate and master's degrees at Virginia Tech and began teaching courses in the department over 10 years ago. His course, Geography of Tea, is a part of the Asian Studies minor & Food, Agriculture, and Societies minor in addition to the Geography curriculum.
The Radford Public Library is located at 30 West Main Street in Radford, VA.
