Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. presents their June First Friday Art Walk on Friday, June 6, 2024 a5 art galleries and art spots throughout downtown Blacksburg, VA.
Experience local art, retail and dining! Art Walks in downtown will feature art galleries, art spots, outdoor murals and the 16 Frogs Project. Some retail stores will stay open late as well.
Stroll downtown and visit the Alexander Black House, New River Art & Fiber Gallery, Matrix Gallery, JH Bards Spirit Co., and the Summer Arts Festival concert with Solacoustix.
Galleries Schedule includes:
1. Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation at The Alexander Black House Gallery:
Matt Gentry's plein art watercolor exhibit, "Regional Road Trip," will come to a close this evening; Matt will celebrate his retirement from The Roanoke Times with family and friends; and Charlie Brouwer's exhibit, "Into the Trees," will officially open. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be available and all are welcome.
2. Matrix Gallery:
This will be the gallery's final Art Walk with guest artist Annie Waldrop's portraits of Blues greats, live acoustic blues music and refreshments.
3. New River Art & Fiber Gallery:
Live Painting Demonstration and Artist Talk with Paul Vivier?
Demo: 2:00-6:00 PM
Artist Talk: 7:00 PM
Paul Vivier will spend an afternoon painting in the gallery followed by an Artist Talk that same evening. During the First Fridays Art Walk event, Paul will be joined by Steven White (aka Sketchy Steven) for an Artist Talk. The two artists, who are also friends, will discuss their respective artistic processes, share thoughts on inspiration and motivations, and then take time for a Q&A from attendees.
