All proceeds from the benefit will directly fund the public history, exhibitions, and educational programs of Christiansburg Institute, Inc. Guests will experience an inspiring evening with remarks from local leaders, live blues music by the Unpaid Bills presented by the New River Blues Society, guided tours of the African American Memory & Storyboards, a special reception honoring the original project’s contributors, and a silent auction and raffle to further support CI, Inc.’s mission.
This gathering will also commemorate the anniversary of the Truth & Reconciliation Coalition: African American Memory & Storyboard Project, a meaningful initiative that debuted in the spring of 2021. The African American Memory & Storyboard Project was a powerful collaboration between CI, Inc. and MMAH, designed to uplift underrepresented local histories through community engagement, historical research, and visual storytelling. The storyboards - featuring the lived experiences, legacies, and heritage sites of African American residents of Montgomery County serve as a lasting public tribute to resilience, memory, and the pursuit of justice.
