Description:
The 89th Newport Agricultural Fair will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 and Saturday, August 10, 2024 on the grounds of the Newport Recreation Center.
Saturday Schedule:
• 9:00 AM: Fun Horse Show
• 10:00 AM: Youth Games (Ages 1-9)
• 1:00 PM: Youth Games (Ages 10+)
• 1:30 PM: History of Newport Presentation (Auditorium)
• 2:00 PM: Forestry Field Day & Competition (Horse Ring)
• 2:00 PM: Cake Walk
• 3:30 PM: All Ages Games
• 5:00 PM: Jousting Tournament
• 6:00 PM: Hog Calling
• 7:00 PM: Marshall Page & Coal Mountain Concert
• ~8:45 PM: Fireworks (at dusk)
The Newport Agricultural Fair will celebrate its 89th birthday this year making it the oldest continuous agricultural fair in the state of Virginia. Bring your family and friends and enjoy food, fun, music, vendors, free petting zoo & face painting and other traditional fair activities that you won't want your family to miss!
To enter the games, participants need to sign up prior to session start time. Cash prizes will be awarded from $1.00-$3.00 for 1st-3rd place winners.
Youth Games (10:00 AM):
• Toddler (Ages 1-3): Sprint, Dash, Hop, Egg & Spoon Race
• Preschool (Ages 4-6): Sprint, Dash, Hop, Egg & Spoon Race
• Ages 7-9: Wheelbarrow Race, Sack Race, Hula Hoop Contest, Egg & Spoon Race
Games for Ages 10 & Up (1:00 PM):
• Sack Race (10-12, 13+)
• Wheelbarrow Race (10-12, 13+)
• Three Legged Race (10-12, 13+)
• Piggy Back Race (10-12, 13+)
• Egg & Spoon Race (10-12, 13+)
• Egg Toss (All ages)
Game Skill Competition for All Ages (3:30 PM):
• Golf Putting Competition
• Free Throw Shooting
• Football Accuracy
• Disc Golf Accuracy
• Pitching Accuracy
• Impossible Shot
Enjoy a slide presentation of the history of Newport from Doug Martin at 1:30 PM titled "Up In The Holler, Down On The Run" inside the Newport Rec Center Auditorium.
The Old Time Forestry Field Day competitions include two person crosscut saw, log splitting, one person bow saw for both men and women respectively and mixed couple crosscut saw and pole toss.
All exhibits will be located downstairs and in the Rescue Squad Hall.
Marshall Page is an accomplished singer and songwriter from Parrott Mountain, a small coal mining community from Southwest Virginia. Playing music the way God intended for it to be played, bluegrass style.

There will be limited handicap parking at the Rec Center and additional handicap parking at the Ball Field.
In case of rain, only individual outdoor events may be affected, all other events will proceed as scheduled.
All pets must be caged or leashed.
