Radford University's Highland Summer Conference presents Music with Ricky Cox and Willard Gayheart on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Selu Conservancy.

Enjoy a free concert featuring artist & musician Willard Gayheart and musician & former Radford University instructor Ricky Cox.

Willard Gayheart is a pencil artist and musician from Southwest Virginia. He is originally from Eastern Kentucky, working mostly from the theme "Nostalgic Glimpses of the Appalachians". His works are positive images of Appalachian Culture, presenting the region as a place alive with interesting personalities.

Besides his artistic talent with the pencil, Willard is also an accomplished bluegrass musician having played as a member of the bluegrass band The Highlanders. He not only picks the guitar and sings, but writes many of the songs himself. On one album, 5 out of the 10 songs were written by him. All the songs written by Willard reflect his experiences and love for the mountain way of life.

Ricky Cox, from Floyd County, VA, is a folklorist, musician and historian and taught courses in English and Appalachian Studies at Radford University for over thirty years.

This concert is part of the 2024 Highland Summer Conference at Radford University, but it is free and open to all.

The Annual Highland Summer Conference is five days of writing, reading and music. The Highland Summer Conference at Radford University brings together authors, students, and educators. This year's writing workshop features guest Annie Woodford, award-winning poet and teacher.

Selu Conservancy is located at 3215 Dry Valley Road in Radford, VA.
