The Floyd Country Store presents Honky Tonk Thursdays with The Redd Volkaert Band & Dancing on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Put on your boots and get ready to scoot across the dance floor! If you enjoy honky tonk, Western swing, and good old classic country, you’ll want to join us for Thursday night Honky Tonk dances.

Probably best known as the most Roy Nichols-like successor to the great Roy Nichols in Merle Haggard’s famous backup band, the Strangers, Canada native Volkaert had no difficultly establishing his place among the country’s top Telecaster guitar slingers.

However, to call Volkaert a mere Nichols-like Stranger would be selling short his seemingly effortless ability to conjure up at will a vast array of complex guitar styles and techniques in countless genres and subgenres of country, rock, jazz, swing, surf, etc. Volkaert (a 2004 Grammy nominee for best country instrumental performance) has indeed mastered the many guitar styles he plays in.

Every Thursday night, we’ll be offering highly danceable country music from Redd Volkaert, the legendary telecaster slinger from Merle Haggard’s band, along with different musicians from around Southwest Virginia and the rest of the country. When Redd isn’t here we’ll have a substitute band that will keep the crowd dancing and smiling.

This is a donation-based event and all are welcome.

Come in to The Floyd Country Store and enjoy some good food and a spacious dance floor!

Note: During the Floyd Small Town Summer events, there will be no Honky Tonk Thursday at The Floyd Country Store.
