Description:
Calfee Community & Cultural Center presents their Public Groundbreaking Ceremony on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
Join us for the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate all of this work and finally kick off the actual renovation of the building! We want everyone to be involved in this occasion, so please bring a shovel or trowel that day and help us spread the word to alumni, friends, and family!
The First Baptist Church on Magazine Street's Choir will perform. Drinks and refreshments will be provided.
Help us celebrate the strong roots of Calfee Training School as we mark the next stage in our project and prepare for future growth! We'll see you there!
The institution that came to be known as the Calfee Training School first opened its doors in southwest Virginia as a school for African American children in 1894. After the original building burned down, the current facility was built by the Public Works Administration in 1939 and continued to be used as a school for African American children until the Pulaski County Public School system fully desegregated in 1966.
Calfee Community & Cultural Center is located at 1 Corbin-Harmon Drive in Pulaski, VA.
