Description:
Science on Tap, local New River Valley science communication event program, presents the "Sketching in Nature" event on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Rising Silo Brewery.

Local artist, photographer, (and fellow SoT audience member) Matt Gentry will be our guest speaker. Matt will discuss his passion for the outdoors, photography process, and experience sketching and painting surrounded by nature. He will share some of his sketch books and artwork and go over the materials he uses.

Matt’s workshop will conclude with participants being encouraged to make their own artwork with simple tools without expectation or pressure of results. Materials will be provided!

Matt Gentry is a Blacksburg native and member of the Virginia Master Naturalists New River Valley Chapter, as well as the NRV Bird Club, Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club and Blacksburg Regional Art Association.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Participants can stay as long as they like and should dress appropriately for weather.

Science on Tap - New River Valley is a monthly event with science-inspired speakers, performers, and discussions. We support bringing science to our community and our community’s support to local research.

We kick off the event with games, comedy, or other fun things. Then, an invited guest researcher demos their research. And then we'll discuss, ask questions, learn together and mingle.
