The Giles County Historical Society Museum and the Daughters of the American Revolution presents the George Pearis Heritage Day on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Giles County Historical Society Museum.
Event Schedule:
• 11:00 AM: Wreath Laying at Historic Pearis Cemetery
• 11:00 AM: Dedication of Flag and New Flagpole Solar Lighting System
• 1:00 PM: Honor Guard Salute Raise the Colors
• 1:30-3:30 PM: Children's Program, Living History and 1800s Authentic Coffee Wagon on Display
• 4:00 PM: Giles Community Singers Concert titled "Sweet Land of Liberty"
• 5:30 PM: TAPS and Retire the Colors.
This event highlights Revolutionary War Captain George Pearis, the namesake of Pearisburg, and the history of Pearisburg, Virginia with a variety of fun activities for all ages including a children's program, living history, "Sweet Land of Liberty" concert from the Giles Community Singers and more.
George Pearis resided and was in command of the Pearis Fort on the New River providing refuge for settlers. Captain Pearis joined Major Joseph Cloyd in suppressing Tory uprisings in 1780 at Shallow Ford along the Yadkin River in North Carolina and was severely injured in the battle.
The Simple Fixins' food truck will be on site starting at Noon.
Admission is free though donations gratefully accepted.
Bring your lawn chairs. Colonial and patriotic dress is suggested, but not required.
