The 2022 Summer Arts Festival presents their Thursday Night Indoor Concerts Kickoff featuring Pianist Alex Hassan in concert at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 7, 2022.

Richmond-based pianist Alex Hassan's concerts cover a wide range of styles, featuring "Hassanizations" of music from operetta and Tin Pan Alley to the great film scores of the 1930s and 1940s. The program includes songs of Gershwin, excerpts from films of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, and a massive medley of unpublished songs by Harry Warren. Please join us for this night of zany syncopated tunes.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Summer Arts Festival is presented through the joint efforts of Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts and the Town of Blacksburg. The Summer Arts Festival includes Friday night concerts on Henderson Lawn, classic films in the historic Lyric Theatre, an art exhibit in the Perspective Gallery in the Squires Student Center, and numerous special events such as Summer Solstice Fest, the Fourth of July celebration, and Steppin' Out street festival. New this year will be a series of Thursday night concerts at the Presbyterian Church including a performance of Mozart's Requiem, a production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder in Theatre 101 featuring actors from Virginia Tech and the community, and children's activities in the new campus Living Learning Community building.

All events of the Summer Arts Festival are free and open to the public.
