Description:
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets presents the panel discussion titled "America's Response To 9/11" as part of their Cutchins Leadership Lecture Series on Thursday, September 9, 2021 inside the Burruss Auditorium on the campus of Virginia Tech.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America, members of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) personnel who were on the ground immediately following the attacks will share their experiences and discuss aspects of the CIA’s operations in Afghanistan and their roles in this unprecedented counter terrorism action.

The panel will include the following speakers:
• Ken Stiles, Moderator, Lead CIA Counterterrorism Targeter (CIA Retired) & Hume Center Professor
• John Bennett, Former Director, National Clandestine Service (CIA Retired)
• Alex R. Hernandez (CIA and U.S. Army Special Forces-the Green Berets)
• Col. Justin Sapp (Military Advisor and Chief of Staff to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and U.S. Army Special Forces-the Green Berets)
• Toby Harnden (Orwell Prize Winning Author of "First Casualty: The Untold Story of the CIA Mission to Avenge 9/11")

The talk is free and open to the public. Ample seating is available behind the cadets, who have assigned seating in the front half of the auditorium.

The Cutchins Leadership Lecture Series is part of the cadet Corps Lab curriculum, housed in the Pamplin College of Business. The lecture series is named for the late Clifford A. Cutchins III, a former bank chairman and Virginia Tech Board of Visitors rector. A member of the Class of 1944, Cutchins received his degree in accounting as a member of the Corps of Cadets.
