Wilderness Road Regional Museum presents a Meet the Author Event & Talk with author Gabe Neville and his book "The Last Men Standing: The 8th Virginia Regiment in the American Revolution" on Sunday, June 14, 2026 in the Do-Better Cottage at the museum. Join us to hear a book talk on "The Last Men Standing", the story of the 8th Virginia Regiment during the American Revolution. The 8th Virginia Regiment was conceived as a way to recruit Revolutionary soldiers in Virginia’s frontier. Men from Pittsburgh to Tennessee were collected into 10 rifle companies and sent into some of the hardest service of the war. Only a few remained for the final victory at Yorktown. Neville wrote his book after being prompted by a librarian at the David Library of the American Revolution. The history of these companies had not been told. “It’s out there,” the librarian said. “You just have to find it.” The Last Men Standing is the result of Neville’s research in archives, small museums, private collections, and other sources. Books will be available for purchase and can b signed by the author. Cash or check accepted for book orders. The book talk starts at 6:00 PM at the Do-Better Cottage, next door to the main museum.
