The Summer Arts Festival presents Playing with Shadows Workshop on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Join us for an all-ages hands-on workshop exploring the magic of light and shadow. We’ll begin by discovering how artists throughout history have used shadows to tell stories. Then, participants will learn to cut, cast, and curate their own shadow narratives, transforming everyday objects into immersive silhouette art. Together, we’ll arrange these pieces into a large-scale, interactive exhibition.

Led by Armory Gallery Staff and Trevor Finney, Manager of the Virtual Environments and Gaming Studios at Virginia Tech’s University Libraries.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

No experience is needed. All materials are provided.

The Armory Gallery of Virginia Tech is located at 203 Draper Road in Blacksburg, VA.
