The Radford University College of Visual & Performing Arts presents the 22nd Annual Radford University International Guitar Festival on Friday, April 28, 2023 and Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Performance Hall inside the Covington Center on the campus of Radford University.
Saturday Performance Schedule:
• 1:00 PM: Maharajah Flamenco Trio Improv Workshop
• 2:00 PM: Mesut Ozgen masterclass
• 3:00 PM: Robert Trent masterclass
• 4:00 PM: Akerman / Teixeira Duo Concert
• 5:00-6:00 PM: Dinner Break
• 7:00 PM: Suzuki Guitar Students with Radford University Ensemble Concert
• 8:00 PM: Jorge Caballero Concert
The 22nd annual International Guitar Festival is a celebration of guitar music that offers two days of concerts, masterclasses and workshops and brings internationally noted guitarist performers to the sonic splendor of the campus of Radford University. Musicians with roots in Peru, Turkey, Romania and Spain will bring a variety of guitar styles and techniques to Davis Hall. The International Guitar Festival has consistently drawn an audience to the New River Valley from Northern Virginia as well as beyond the borders of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Maryland, North Carolina and as far north as New York State.
Among the performers is Jorge Caballero, a renowned guitarist who has garnered several international awards from the age of 19. In addition to performing classical guitar compositions and his own work, Caballero is famous for adapting orchestra and piano compositions for guitar. Radford University's Dr. Robert Trent organizes this event each year and will also be among the performers and workshop leaders.
All events are free and open to the public.
