The New River Valley Timebank and New River Valley Habitat for Humanity present the 2023 Spring Repair Cafe on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Christiansburg, VA.
A Repair Cafe is a free event where skilled volunteers are on-hand to repair some of your well-loved possessions and promotes repair as an alternative to throwing things out.
Services available will include repairs to:
• Small Furniture Repair
• Small Appliance Repair
• Computer & Electronics Repair
• Sewing and Alterations
• Knife & Tool Sharpening
• Master Gardeners with Plant Repotting & More
Attendees can bring up to three items to repair.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
The New River Valley TimeBank, in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Christiansburg, hosts Repair Cafe events twice a year, in the spring and the fall.
The New River Valley TimeBank is a project of New River Valley Home, a non-profit that works to foster vibrant, lifespan-friendly communities by connecting people, resources and organizations. It has been developed and supported through the efforts of the NRV Livability Initiative and the NRV Aging in Place Leadership Team.
A TimeBank helps to connect people to exchange skills and services, using time rather than dollars. When a member provides one hour of service for someone, they earn one Time Credit. They can then spend this Time Credit by receiving an hour of service from someone else. The possibilities for exchange are endless and may include home repair, animal care, yard work, cooking lessons, computer instruction, etc.
All services are valued equally, and all members are respected for what they have to offer. It is an old idea made new—the idea that our community is stronger when neighbors make a practice of helping each other.
