The Montgomery Museum of Art & History presents a Museum Open House featuring Photographer Susan Lockwood and a Whiskey Tasting with J.H. Bards on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Join Montgomery Museum for an Open House and opening reception for Photographer Susan Lockwood's new exhibit "The Cotswolds and More". This event also includes the opening of our history exhibition, "Owning the Stereotype: The History of Hillbilly Iconography Exhibition." The exhibit will explore how stereotypes featuring the poor, backward “hillbilly” found their way onto myriad objects. This exhibition features the private collection of Montgomery Museum Board President Dr. Jean Haskell, retired professor of Appalachian Studies at Virginia Tech and East Tennessee State University and co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Appalachia.

To celebrate the history of Hillbilly Iconography, we are also delighted to have J.H. Bards Spirit Co. offering 20-minute whiskey tastings and bottle sales during our event. There will be a total of five whiskey tastings over the course of the event (5:00 PM, 5:25 PM, 5:50 PM, 6:15 PM and 6:40 PM) and pre-registration is required. The cost for the whiskey tasting is $5.00 per person for ages 21+ only.
