She was on the staff of Jinny Beyer's Hilton Head Seminar from1995 until the Seminar ended. In 1989 she founded Cabin Branch Quilters Woodbridge, Virginia. Paula hosted a weekly TV series on quilting for the Park Authority of Prince William, County, Virginia.

Paula is a co-author of "Quilts of Virginia 1607-1899: The Birth of America Through the Eye of a Needle", based on the Virginia quilt documentation project. She is past-president of the Board of Directors for the Virginia Quilt Museum and past president of the Mason Dixon Quilt Professionals Network. She previously served as Exhibits Chair for the Virginia Quilt Museum and currently as Program Chair for her local guild.

Anne Deaton of The Common Ingredient is the community outreach speaker for the meeting. As a founding member of The New River Valley Common Ingredient (NRV-TCI) chapter, Anne Deaton will share the NRV-TCI story with Blacksburg Newcomers and how recipes can make a difference in the fight to end hunger.

What is The Common Ingredient? LOVE—love for delicious food, new and exciting recipes, and above all, love for helping our NRV neighbors. Recipes are the currency that drives this initiative. NRV-TCI chapter needs to fill its database with recipes that will entice cooks to search for their next dish online at: https://www.thecommoningredient.com/.

While visitors search for recipes, they will be exposed to the food needs of the NRV and how they can help the food banks featured every three months. This recipe-sharing website will encourage visitors to give their time, talents, and treasure to help our neighbors. Whether they support the NRV food pantries or organizations of their own choosing, they help feed hungry people. If you are interested in getting more directly involved in the NRV-TCI Chapter, please contact thecommoningredientnrv@gmail.com.

Admission is free and all are welcome to join the Blacksburg Newcomers whether you are new to the area or a longtime local resident.

Luther Memorial Church is located at 600 Prices Fork Road in Blacksburg, VA.
