Description:
The Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences presents a free talk with entrepreneur and Army veteran Nate Looney will give the talk "Transformative Perspective in Agriculture: A Personal Narrative" on Monday, February 25, 2019 inside the Holtzman Alumni Center.

During his presentation, Nate Looney will share with us his personal experiences as an African American Veteran, member of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as his thoughts on how students can enrich their leadership skills throughout agriculture and beyond.

Nate Looney is the CEO and owner of Westside Urban Gardens, an agricultural start-up in Los Angeles. As a U.S. Army veteran and fifth-generation farmer, Looney was compelled to explore a future in agriculture. During college, he taught himself how to farm indoors and grow in controlled environments.

He has been featured as a veteran farmer on the “Lydia Celebrates America” program on PBS and on LA Fox Morning News. He was a guest speaker for USDA, at the Cultivating Change Summit 2018, and the FoodTank Summit in San Diego last fall. Looney's crops are Homegrown By Heroes, certified and have been sold in local fine dining restaurants and five Los Angeles area farmers markets.

Admission is free and open to the public.

A reception will follow in the Holtzman Alumni Center.
