Description:
The Oak Grove Pavilion continues their 24th Annual Summer Music Sundays Concert Series Finale featuring their first double billing music with Bill Adams and Rob Neukirch followed by Nii Anang and Land of Joy on Sunday, August 5, 2018.

We are closing out our summer with these two fantastic local groups!

Bill Adams is a dobro and finger-style guitarist playing jazz, country swing, and pop music favorites in an Americana mix and plays in numerous bluegrass bands in the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia region.

Bill was once an elementary school teacher who retired to live his passion in music. He actually plays many styles of music and many instruments. Along with playing dobro and rhythm guitar, he has played the steel guitar in western swing and classic Nashville country bands.

Nii Anang & Land of Joy is a five piece band led by master drummer and and multi-instrumentalist Nii Anang. They play music informed by everything from the sounds of Ghanaian folk music, to Afro-beat and the desert blues of Mali.

Nii began drumming at the age of 7 in his home country of Ghana, West Africa. He began to play professionally at the age of 16 with the Pan African Orchestra. Later, he was one of the founding members of the Kusun Ensemble which toured the United States, Canada, and Australia from 2000 to 2006.

He has educated hundreds of people on the hand drumming techniques of African drumming, as well as teaching other instruments, songs, dances, and about the culture that he experienced growing up in Ghana.

The other musicians in Land of Joy are all residents of Floyd County, VA and come from such diverse musical worlds as the New York studio and orchestra scene, traditional Appalachia, and the Atlanta underground, bringing influences from classical, roots-reggae, avant-jazz, and bluegrass to the mix.

The event is rain or shine.

Since 1994 the Oak Grove Pavilion has been a summer entertainment venue which has hosted a wide variety of family friendly music and drama events. The "season" begins in early June and ends in late August and this year the concerts are on Sunday afternoons starting at 4:00 pm.

Music is made possible by Floyd businesses and individual sponsors.

The Oak Grove Pavilion is located behind the historic Zion Lutheran Church in a stand of old oaks located at 635 Needmore Lane in Floyd, VA.
