Description:
Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery presents the Opening Art Gallery Reception for “It’s Never Too Late” on Friday, August 17, 2018.

The Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery is pleased to announce its newest gallery show, “It’s Never Too Late,” featuring the works from Harriet Anderson’s watercolor class.

The show includes the works of Peggy Amonette, Harriet Anderson, Marie Archer, Sandy Beasley, Bonnie Blackburn, Odell Calfee, Catherine Cox, Linda Coyle, David Ferrell, Barbara Griffith, Carol Hancock, Sue Hossack, Ginny Jones, Bucky Lawrence, Annyce Levy, Judith Peele, Rose Rogers, Ernie Ross, Carlene Sain, Jill Sandidge, Valerie Sellers, Frances Staples, Sharon Taylor, Carolyn Turner and Lark Woodall.

Additional works will be on display from Anderson’s beginning students: Frances Carter, Jane Collins, Phyllis Long and Shirley Paine.

Harriet Anderson has been offering watercolor classes since 2010. The group began with help from the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley and the Radford Recreation Senior Center. According to Anderson, many retirees express a desire to learn to paint, and this group sought to provide a niche. Watercolor painting has a reputation for being difficult, yet in spite of that, the group has grown and is taking in students who are not retirees.

Harriet Anderson adds: “Now the amazing part is that most of the students have never painted with watercolors or even taken any art classes at all. Yet, within a few weeks, students are enthusiastically brushing in ‘wet into wet’ skies, blending small evergreen trees along lavender mountains and shading small barns in snow-covered pastures.”

“It’s Never Too Late” will be on display through September 28, 2018.
