YMCA at Virginia Tech presents The Cinderella Project on Saturday, April 1, 2017.

Racks full of colorful prom dresses adorn the YMCA Thrift Shop in preparation for The Cinderella Project. The dresses this year range in colors, styles, and sizes – there’s something for everyone! But the event’s focus hasn’t changed: it is to make sure all students are able to have a Cinderella moment on prom night.

Local stores, individuals, and VT sororities donate the new or gently-used dresses, and the YMCA Thrift Shop stores the dresses all year long and sets up the Cinderella Project formal suit and dress boutique.

High school men and women on a budget are welcome to shop the suits, dresses and accessories at thrift-store prices. The YMCA will donate prom attire to those most in need. “The goal of our program is to make sure that every young lady who wishes to go to their prom can indeed do so,” said Ron Ovelgoenner, Director of the YMCA Thrift Shop.

The Cinderella Project’s formal clothing boutique is located at the YMCA Thrift Shop at 1000 N. Main Street in Blacksburg.

It will be open Saturday, April 1 from 10:00am-3:00pm; Friday, April 7 from 3:00pm-7:00pm; and Saturday, April 8 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
