Description:
The Perspective Art Gallery, located within the Squires Student Center, hosts the opening art reception for "My Friend Earl" on Friday, November 15th.

"My Friend Earl" are photos from photographer and local Cambria resident Earl Palmer that display terrific slices of Appalachian life during the 1950's. The photographs are from the Appalachia collection of John Kline. John is a local photographer and owner of John's Camera Corner in downtown Blacksburg. Also, artifacts on loan from the Appalachian Studies program at Virginia Tech will be on display.

In addition to the art, musician Old Man Kelly will be provided music. Liam Kelly, may be better known as Old Man Kelly, is no stranger to song, but don’t call him a singer-songwriter. He’s been around the block more times than he can count, taking laps past punk rock, Irish music, Appalachian old-time, alt-country, nautical music, and French chansons. The arsenal is vast — banjo, guitar, accordion, drums, harmonica, fiddle, and kazoo are all fair game.

The exhibit will be on display from November 14, 2013 through January 3, 2014.
