The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts continues their Visiting Artist Series with Clarinetist Javier Vinasco and Richard Masters on piano on Monday, November 4th in the Squires Recital Salon.

Colombian clarinetist, Javier Vinasco earned his Doctorate of Music by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 2008 he was nominated, along with Mexican pianist Edith Ruiz, for a Latin Grammy for their album Astor Piazzolla / Heitor Villa-Lobos. He is a representative of Colombia for the International Clarinet Association and is the festival artistic director for ClariSax Medellin. He has recorded seven solo CDs with about 55 works by American composers, some of which have been dedicated.

His collection Mexico Clarinet Only in 3 volumes as a reference is unparalleled in the world of clarinet. In 2008 he premiered the Second Concerto for Clarinet Diego Vega with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, and recorded with EAFIT Symphony Orchestra in 2009. In 2010, he premiered the Concerto for Clarinet by Andrés Posada, dedicated to him, with the Symphony Orchestra of Caracas.
