Description:
For the third year in a row, the streets of Roanoke will be taken over by cyclists in their best dresses, vests, bowties and plus-four's, for the Third Annual Roanoke Tweed Run set for Saturday, November 9th, 2013.
This year's Tweed Run will begin with registration and a tea social hour at 11:00 am in front of Starlight Bicycles on 1502 Grandin Road SW in Gradin Village. The actual ride will begin just after 12 pm and travel along several downtown roads and some of the greenways before ending at Flanary's on Jefferson Street.
The ride is made so cyclists of any ability can enjoy this slow paced ride. Riders are only recommended to be comfortable riding in active traffic on public roads.
A Tweed Ride is a group bicycle ride through a defined route, in which the cyclists are expected to dress in traditional British cycling or vintage attire, particularly tweed. Any bicycle is acceptable on the Tweed Ride, but classic vintage bicycles are encouraged. Some effort to recreate the spirit of a bygone era is always appreciated. --- via Wikipedia
The Roanoke Tweed Run's goal is to promote cycling awareness, cycling as an alternative means of transportation, showcase the greenway and cycle friendly routes through Roanoke, and that you don't always have to wear cycling specific gear to enjoy a bike ride through your community.
Registration fee is $5 which includes a official Roanoke Tweed Run button. Proceeds of all ticket sales go to Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
Pre-registration is available online at
