Glencoe Museum is pleased to announce the opening reception for artist Fred Jones on Thursday, November 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Fred Jones is a Floyd resident who spends his time creating art and tending to his 20 honeybee colonies.

The reception is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. There is no admission charge.

Jones was born in Houston, Texas in 1955. During the first 30 years of his life he moved 23 times before arriving in Virginia to finally put down roots. He was educated as a veterinarian but gave up his career to raise his family. He has four children who are all now college graduates, so he can now dedicate his time to pursuing his lifelong passion for art. His pursuit began in 2006, with a drawing class at Penland School of Crafts. Jones still draws, but in 2010, his emphasis moved to painting with oils. His work is influenced by impressionist painters as well as realist painters.

Fred Jones is a visual person and responds strongly to imagery. In his art he hopes the viewer will respond to the images in his or her own way. In the artist’s own words:

"I want my painting to be more than the creation of images. While I may have a particular narrative in mind, depending on the perspective of the viewer that story could be something completely different. Regardless of how the viewer interprets my work, if I can elicit emotions, feelings or ideas then I will have succeeded in my goals."
