Description:
The Historic Lecture Series continues with the "250th Anniversary of the Proclamation of 1763" presented by historian Jim Glanville on Thursday, November 7th at the Town Council Chambers inside the Blacksburg Municipal Building.

Local historian, Jim Glanville will give an illuminating talk about the effects of King George's proclamation on this area. The lecture will describe the Proclamation issued by King George III on October 7, 1763 to manage the vast new North American territory won by Britain at the conclusion of the French and Indian War. Part of the King's plan was to draw an imaginary line along the Eastern Continental Divide to set off an Indian reserve and prevent Virginia settlers from moving west. That line runs through Blacksburg. The line was a provocation in Virginia for the American Revolution.

The committee has commissioned a commemorative sign to be placed on Blacksburg's Main Street.

The Historic Lecture Series is cosponsored by the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation and Historic Smithfield Plantation.
