The Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department is holding their annual Open House at their Prices Fork Road Fire Station on Sunday, October 6th, from 1-4 pm.

LewisGale Hospital Montgomery will be providing light refreshments. There will be many fun and educational activities for the children. Sparky The Fire Dog and Smokey Bear will make guest appearances. Come out and tour the fire station and spend Sunday afternoon with firefighters.

Fire Prevention Week takes place October 6-13, 2013. This year the Fire Prevention Week theme is, "Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Unattended cooking is the leading cause of kitchen fires. Keep an eye on what you fry.

The Blacksburg Fire Department's mission is to protect life, environment, and property in the Town of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and the areas of Montgomery County surrounding the town. They strive to provide excellence in such services as public fire education, inspections, fire prevention, fire suppression, and hazardous materials containment. Their mission is still the same after 91 years of volunteer service,
