Glencoe Museum presents a historical brick architecture lecture from architectural historian Mike Pulice at the Radford Public Library on Tuesday, October 1, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

October 2013 is the 15th anniversary of the opening of Glencoe Museum, which was the former home of General Gabriel C. Wharton. The 1870 structure is a solid masonry construction and ties into the region’s rich legacy of brick construction.

In honor of this anniversary, the Radford Heritage Foundation is sponsoring a talk to be given by Mike Pulice of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. In his presentation, Pulice will speak on the history of 19th century brick architecture of the Montgomery County region. Radford’s brick architectural tradition pertains as it was part of Montgomery County until 1892.

Mike Pulice received his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Radford University and worked for nearly a decade as an archaeologist. In 2000, he completed his Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech. He has held the position of architectural historian for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources’ Western Regional Office since 2001 and is a noted authority on historic brick masonry, having published the acclaimed book 19th Century Brickwork in the Roanoke Valley and Beyond: Discovering the True Legacies of the Deyerle Builders in 2011.
