Glencoe Museum is pleased to announce the artist’s reception for Alex Crookshanks on Friday, September 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

The reception is open to the public. There is no admission charge. The artwork will be on display through the end of October.

Alex Crookshanks began his artistic career at age four by carving a star into the top of his parents’ floor model television, and since that point, he has been creating art. Crookshanks received his BA in Graphic Design and a BA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting. His career is art—he works full time as a graphic designer, and when not working, he is creating his personal artwork.

For his gallery showing at Glencoe, Crookshanks is displaying his “Life Impressions” prints and his photography. The inspiration behind the “Life Impressions” was the artist’s desire to bridge the worlds of digital and traditional art.

Artist Statement:
"For this series entitled, "Life Impressions", I started creating these "digital blot paintings" out of a desire to bridge digital art and more "traditional" art. It takes a number of impressions to create what I feel is a successful print. The multiple drafts of impressions helps reaffirm my vision for the piece.

My favorite tool in this series is the ink. It is impossible to control the multiple variables that go in to constructing each piece--ink density, moisture of the paper, and so on. I enjoy how the ink reacts to the water on the paper. How the color moves around the edges of the images blurring into abstract shapes, moods, and tones.

I consider a piece successful when it emotes something from the viewer. When the piece communicates independent of a verbal statement is a success. These "Life Impressions" echo the facets of my life and I hope you find something that will resonate in yours."

The show will be on exhibit from September 16 - October 31, 2013.
