The City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation offers a free evening of Star Gazing on Saturday, October 26th.

At night the stars appear as if painted on a dark, flat canvas. But this is deceiving. Tonight we?ll hop from some nearby to others far more distant, and find that brightness often fools us as to which is which!

* Monthly stargazing programs on the Blue Ridge Parkway (mile marker 139) allow you to meet other people as you peer through large telescopes to distant stars, planets and galaxies. All programs are offered through the City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation and are FREE, but advance registration is required by calling 540-853-2236 at least five business days before each program. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The programs are led by Frank Baratta, an experienced amateur astronomer and member of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society.
